David and Bob recently traveled to West Lafayette, Indiana for a special occasion. The Arbor Day Foundations and Toyota honored Purdue University by donating 60 trees supplied by Listerman & Associates to beautify the campus. While 146 Universities earned Tree Campus USA designations by the Arbor Day Foundation, Purdue was one of only 11 campuses awarded the Spring Plantings across the country. David and Bob participated as volunteers to help plant the trees which included the varieties: Acer miyabi ‘State Street’, Zelkova serrata ‘Green Vase’, Ulmus x ‘Frontier’ and Quercus shumardii.

The event was incredibly well organized and the planting proceeded quite quickly after the Purdue arborists showed everyone the proper planting procedures. Special attention and direction from the arborist were given to both planting with the root flair exposed and ensuring appropriate planting depth. The volunteers worked with the professional Purdue Grounds Department crew in which they predug all the holes prior to the planting day.

“We look forward to going back to campus over the years to see how are participation plays a small part in the overall tree planting plan for Purdue University. It was a lot of fun to tour an 8000+ tree campus and see how trees and shrubs add so much to the college experience. Congratulations to all of the Purdue staff for having excellence in the horticultural industry!”
